Harmony Juvenile Products is informing the public of a non-compliance of certain Big Boost Deluxe booster seats made between 2016 and 2017. Specifically, Transport Canada testing has shown that certain Big Boost Deluxe booster seats did not meet the dynamic requirements for chest acceleration of the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulation.
Safety Risk:
Regulations set forth by Transport Canada require that booster seats meet all applicable safety requirements when subjected to a dynamic test, including measures and limits for chest acceleration. Transport Canada tests indicated that the booster seat in question does not meet the dynamic test requirements for chest acceleration, which could increase the risk of injury in the event of a collision.
Company Actions:
Harmony is advising consumers to re-route the shoulder portion of the vehicles lap-and-shoulder seat belt over the armrest of the booster seat. Registered consumers will be provided with an updated side warning sticker for the Big Boost Deluxe seat as well as a letter outlining the re-routing instructions by regular mail. In addition, the Instruction Manual for the Big Boost Deluxe has been updated to reflect the re-routing instructions and is available for download by consumers (at no cost). Non-registered owners of affected booster seats, or owners who have moved, should contact Harmony Juvenile Products at customerservice@harmonyjuvenile.com or 1-877-306-1001 to obtain a new side warning sticker and Consumer Letter or if they have any questions.
Consumer Recourse:
Owners of the affected booster seats may contact Harmony's customer service at 1-877-306-1001 or customerservice@harmonyjuvenile.com to receive their updated warning sticker and instructions, or for any questions concerning this issue.
